Purpose: Work on technique, drills and field testing to establish heart rate zone training and racing parameters.
Content: Run session, followed by Bike session: We will start each session with drills and technical work to refine your skills, and establish a good warm up routine. We will then perform some race simulated efforts to determine threshold heart rate (HR), capturing HR data intermittently. This data will be referenced in the HR training lecture. We will run first, change, and then bike afterwards. This will be a vigorous workout. Results will be a bit better if athletes can plan for the prior day to be a lighter, recovery oriented day.
Seminars: 2:30-4:00. (light snacks provided)
Lecture 1: “Target your training precisely!”
Implementing heart rate zones into your training regime: What do the heart rate zones mean, and how do you use them? Setting heart rate targets to ensure racing success. Sample heart rate based workouts for different times of year.
Lecture 2: “Nail your nutrition!”
The nuts and bolts of Ironman and triathlon sports performance nutrition. We will discuss how to break down and track your performance nutrition, to create a training and racing protocol that helps ensure race success.
Athletes will need:
- Bike and trainer
- Run gear
- Heart rate monitor, preferably
- Sport nutrition/hydration (during and post-workout)
- Pen and paper
- Dry clothes for post workout.
