Training and Equipment for Kids
Training
Training for a Kids of Steel triathlon can be very simple. You don't need a very detailed training plan like some adults have. Follow some of the suggestions below and you will do just fine.
-
get some physical activity every day. Go for a walk, or a bike ride
with your friends , or roller blading, or play a game of street
hockey. It doesn't matter what you do as long you are moving and
getting that daily exercise.
-
join your school's cross-country running or track and field team
-
go for a short run. It's ok to walk too.
-
get in the pool and swim. Take swimming lessons or join your local swim
team to improve your swimming.
-
get on your bike and ride with your friends. Pick up the pace for a while
and then slow down and do that a couple of times.
-
Ride and run hills. It's a great way to make your legs and heart stronger.

When You Get To The Race.
It can be very nerve racking when you get to a triathlon, especially if it's your first one. Follow these hints and tips to help you to get ready.
-
Get all your equipment ready the night before. Have your swim suits,
shorts, etc in a large sports bag to take with you.
-
Make sure your bike is tuned up. Oil the chain, and make sure all parts are
straight and tight such as the brakes, handle bars and seat.
-
It's important to get to the race early. At least 45 minutes before the
triathlon.
-
There will be lots of volunteers there whose job is to help you. Use them if
you have any questions.
-
Check in at the registration table to get numbered and follow any instructions
that the volunteers may give you.
-
Take your bike to the bike transition area and place your bike on the rack.
Volunteers will help you. Remember where you put your bike. Usually
you will leave your bike helmet with your bike.
-
Place your towel, shirt, shorts and runners at the designated area. In most
triathlons, it will be right by your bike.
-
It's normal for Mom and Dad to be more nervous than you. If you see that
they are getting a little to excited, tell them to calm down and that you will do just fine.
Happy Racing!
