Paul Tichelaar Headlines the STAC Annual Awards Banquet, March 17th, 2012 at the Willows Golf & Country Club

SASKATOON, SK – Olympic Triathlete Paul Tichelaar, who represented Canada at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, will be the guest speaker for the 2012 Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Annual Awards Banquet, March 17th at the Willows Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon. The evening banquet will recognize the great triathlon performances from 2011 including Team Saskatchewan’s strong performance at the Western Canada Summer Games and celebrate significant contributions from volunteers of the past season.

10 am Swim Meet at the Shaw Centre Will Start the Day. All Adult Ticket purchases include entry into the Swim Meet and the afternoon session with Paul Tichelaar.
 
Tichelaar will lead the Afternoon presentation at the Willows, 3 pm !
 
The events of March 17th will begin with a swim meet at the Shaw Centre in the morning hosted by the Saskatoon Triathlon Club Incorporated (STCI). Paul Tichelaar will be present for the swim meet. In the afternoon, Tichelaar will lead a triathlon clinic session at the Willows.  All ticket holders may participate in the swim meet and session with Paul Tichelaar in the afternoon. An AGM will follow the clinic in the afternoon, followed by an awards banquet in the evening.
This Event is a fundraiser for the Saskatchewan Triathlon Centre (STC) with part of the proceeds of each ticket supporting STC Junior Elite Athletes. Tickets are on sale through the Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation web site, www.triathlonsaskatchewan.org. Adult tickets are $40 for the banquet. Youth tickets are $15.

Tichelaar has had a strong career representing Canada in triathlon. He burst onto the international scene in 2011 with a 5th place finish in the junior category at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) event in Edmonton. As a professional, he has had many strong finishes in ITU events leading up to the 2008 Olympics including a Silver Medal in Cancun, Mexico and numerous to 8 finishes. At the Olympics in Beijing, Paul finished 28th. Since 2008, Tichelaar has gradually moved to competing in long course triathlons finishing his first ironman as a professional in Penticton this past summer despite battling injuries. Overall, Tichelaar was 150th in the field of over 2000 triathletes in Penticton.
 
STAC Annual General Meeting at 5 pm
 
STAC will host its Annual General Meeting, 5 pm at the Willows. The meeting will include the election of new board members. All current adult STAC members have voting priviledges at the STAC AGM. Your attendance, questions and input helps STAC meet its mission statement to:

STAC Annual Awards to Be Presented at the Banquet
 
Nominations are open for the 2011 STAC Annual Awards to be presented at the 2012 Banquet. STAC awards for the following categoires:
  • Male and Female Age Group Athlete of the year
  • Male and Female Junior Athlete of the Year
  • Rookie Athlete of the Year
  • Long Distance Athlete of the Year
  • Official of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Builder/Long Service Award
