SASKATOON - Two Saskatchewan triathletes, Rachael Edwards from Saskatoon and Simon Schaerz from Regina were named by Triathlon Canada to the 2012 FISU World University Triathlon Championships in Taipei, Taiwan to be hosted June 29th and 30th, 2012.

The team will consist of two male athletes and six female athletes from across Canada. (more)

SASKATOON - Saskatchewan Triathlon Centre (STC) athletes placed first in all four races at the Bridge City Duathlon, Saturday, April 28th, 2012. Chris Malin and Rachael Edwards first in top spot for the men and women's long course events and Brammon Edwards and Keisha Besler finished first for the sprint distance. All four train with the STC. (more)

The Saskatchewan triathlon community is celebrating again as Regina’s Milos Kostic has been named Sask Sport’s Masters Athlete of the Year. Milos came back from a significant cycling accident in 2010 to win two Age Group World Championship Events in 2011, at the age of 70. This is the second time he has won this award. Milos previously received this honor in 2006. (read more)

SASKATOON, SK –Olympic Triathlete Paul Tichelaar, who represented Canada at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, will be the guest speaker for the 2012 Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Annual Awards Banquet, March 17th at the Willows Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon. The evening banquet will recognize the great triathlon performances from 2011 including Team Saskatchewan’s strong performance at the Western Canada Summer Games and celebrate significant contributions from volunteers of the past season.   • Swim Meet at the Shaw Centre at 10 am
  • Presentation with Paul Tichellar, 3 pm at the Willows
  • STAC AGM 5 pm, at the Willows
  • Awards Banquet featuring Paul Tichelaar at 6pm.

SASKATOON, SK – Saskatchewan will host the best junior-aged triathletes (age 16-19) from across Canada at the Craven-Genki Pike Lake Triathlon on June 24th, 2012. Hosted by the Saskatoon Triathlon Club Inc (STCI) and the Saskatchewan Triathlon Association (STAC), the Craven-Genki Pike Lake Triathlon is the first of four national calibre Junior Elite races in the Teck Junior Elite Race Series hosted by Triathlon Canada. This race will also be a world qualifier for all adult competitors age 19 and older to earn up to 48 spots at the 2013 World Triathlon Championships in London, England, expected to be held on the same race course as the upcoming Olympic race. The Craven-Genki Triathlon will serve as the provincial qualifier for Saskatchewan’s age group athletes selecting our team to represent the province at Canada’s National Triathlon Championship in 2012.

“To be invited to host a race of this magnitude is very exciting for us. We are exceptionally proud of our athletes, who we know have ability to compete alongside the best of the best in Canada,” says STAC President CJ Katz. Organizers of the Pike Lake event expect in excess of 250 racers to descend upon the picturesque park to swim (750 m), bike (20 km) and run (5 km). (read more)

HENDERSON, NV – Regina’s Emma Bandol and Dalton Fayad and Saskatoon’s Shannon Bews battled a difficult course and tough weather conditions to post strong times at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) 2011 Long Course Triathlon World Championship held Saturday November 5th in Henderson, Nevada.

Emma Bandol finished as the 2nd highest Canadian in her age group (14th overall) with a time of 6:54:11. Bandol is pictured wrapped in the Saskatchewan Flag as she crosses the finish line.  Dalton Fayad's finishing time was 6:18:00, good for 35th in his age group. Shannon Bews was the top Canadian in the 45-49 year old age group. Bews finished with a time of 8:02:53, 30th overall for the age group. (read more)

HENDERSON, NV – This week, Dalton Fayad and Emanuela Bandol of Regina and Shannon Bews of Saskatoon are travelling to Henderson, Nevada for the International Triathlon Union (ITU) 2011 Long Course Triathlon World Championships to be held Saturday November 5th, 2011. The three will help represent Canada as part of a much larger Canadian Age Group Team consisting of more than 110 age groupers ranging in age from 20 to 74 years old. (read more)

The Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation (STAC) is proud to announce the creation of $1000 in annual education bursary's. Each year STAC will issue $1000 in bursary funds to triathletes attending a post-secondary institution in the Province of Saskatchewan. The source of the bursary funds is our Legacy Fund of Excellence. This Legacy fund is managed by the National Sport Trust Fund (NSTF) and STAC accepts donations to support the fund. This is a great way to support triathlon in our province. All private donations received through the fund receive tax receipts from the NSTF. If you would like to make a donation or find out more information about our Legacy Fund, visit the STAC Legacy Fund of Excellence page on our web site here.

Regina's Milos Kostic again won his age groups at the Penticton Ironman on Sunday, August 28th. Simon Dutton of Moose Jaw is the top Saskatchewan male and Emanuela Bandol of Regina is the top Saskatchewan female. Tom McCaig of Swift Current finished fourth in the 65-69 year old age group and qualified for Kona.

Saskatchewan’s Gabrielle Edwards, a rising star on the Junior Elite national triathlon circuit, took third in the Teck Junior National Series, a four-race series which finished today with the Canadian Junior National Championships in Kelowna, B.C. Edwards, who resides in Saskatoon, has had a stellar year this season, earning a silver and a bronze at Western Canada Summer Games earlier this month.
