7.1 Sask Sport Recognition Awards

The Volunteer Recognition Awards are designed to honor individuals who devote their time and effort toward the development of sport. Volunteers may be nominated for service within the province and/or at the national/international level. Service to sport within the province will be the most important factor in the process.

Award recipients will be honoured at the Sport Awards Banquet which will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts in Regina.

Special Criteria

1. A member organization of Sask Sport may nominate one individual in one of the following categories: a) coach, b) official, c) administration.

2. Only member organizations of Sask Sport may nominate.

3. Only one nomination per organization will be accepted.

4. The person nominated must have been active in the past 12 months to be eligible for consideration.

5. Please send black and white pictures head and shoulder of nominee.

7.2 Athlete of the Year

Nominations can be made in the categories of Youth - Male, Youth - Female, Male, Female, Master, and Team. The award is open to athletes who make their primary home in Saskatchewan and are a member in good standing with their Provincial Sport Governing Body. Athletes who live temporarily in other provinces for training or education purposes are products of our provincial sport development system, are also eligible for nomination, as are athletes who originally came from other provinces, provided their primary residence is declared as being in Saskatchewan.

The basis of consideration for this year's awards is the athlete's outstanding performance or series of performances during the calendar year, January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005. Nominations may be made by Active and Affiliate members of Sask Sport Inc., but the media and general public are also encouraged to bring forward any nominations to a Provincial Sport Governing Body for their consideration.

7.3 Athlete of the Month

The Athlete of the Month Award is presented for outstanding performance in a month. Nominations may be made by provincial sport organizations, the media or the public. All nominations are subject to approval by the provincial sport organization. Nominations will be accepted up until the third working day (noon) of the following month.

The award is open to teams and individuals who perform solo or on a team. Recipients may not win more than once every calendar year. A "team" is defined as a number of persons associated together in an activity. This includes all-star teams and contingents competing in individual disciplines in which there is a recognized team award.

To be eligible, athletes must: participate in a sport which is a recognized active and affiliate member of Sask Sport Inc.; be amateur in status as defined by their provincial sport organizations; make their primary residence in Saskatchewan. Athletes who live temporarily in other locations for educational or training purposes are also eligible as are athletes who are originally from other provinces. The award winner is announced through a media release and all nominees receive a certificate of achievement.

7.4 Sask Sport Delegates

The Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation is a member of Sask Sport. As such, we are entitled to participate in the various Sask Sport functions including voting rights at the Annual General Meeting, the Sask Sport Fall Conference, and the Hall of Fame Induction Dinners.

The Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation shall have a policy of nominating and selecting Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation representatives to officially attend these functions. Wherever possible there will be volunteers and the professional staff will attend as observers.

The Saskatchewan Triathlon Association Corporation shall also endeavor to nominate and support a candidate to run for a position of the Board of Directors.

7.5 Saskatchewan Hall of Fame Eligibility of Championship Teams

Saskatchewan teams winning a National, International, or World Championship may be eligible for installation in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. The final decision respecting the eligibility of such teams is made by the Board of Directors on the basis of established criteria. The installation will be in the form of a suitable photograph of the team in the Championship Teams Sections.

7.5.1Information and Criteria Concerning Nominations to the Hall of Fame

Nominations may originate with an individual, club or association, and must be signed by the nominator. Nominations should be forwarded to the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, 2205 Victoria Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan S4P 0S4.

Nominations should outline as much factual information as possible, giving details of the accomplishments of the nominee. Where possible, the claimed accomplishment or service record should be supported by documentary evidence.

Nominations must be accompanied by a head and shoulders photograph (5" x 4" minimum size) of the nominee. In the case of an athlete this should be from his or her competitive days. The photograph will be used for making a portrait to hang in the Hall of Fame, should the nominee be accepted for induction.
