The above is a general description of what STAC tries to do. There is no hard and fast answer to whether or not it is to "your" advantage to become a full member instead of a race day member.

Probably 70% (educated guess) of your membership fee ends up coming back to the local club hosting a race, via MAP, or officials training, or indirect support with equipment and advertising. Some individuals may see more than this if they are eligible for performance funding. The race day fee is almost a money losing proposition for the provincial body, insurance costs are more than 1/2 the fee. It is a question of how much you personally want to be involved with the "sport" as a whole.

If you aren't sure if you will enjoy the competitive aspects of the sport, or don't train with a local club, and really are not interested in the "bigger" picture, the race day fee is intended to allow local organizers an inexpensive insurance fee. For STAC's purpose the race day fee allows us to declare you as a member which helps with obtaining funding based on membership and assists in advertising. The full membership fee implies that you are serious and are interested in active promotion of the sport.
