Congrats to Rick Vircavs at Xterra WC
2006-11-10

Congrats to Rick Vircavs- the orginal RV - on his impressive 16th place in the 45-50 Age group at the Xterra (off road Triathlon) World Championships last weekend - looks like he might have had to kick the RV into turbo for a sprint finish as the 17th place guy was 4secs back.

Details at http://www.xterraplanet.com/races/race.cfm?race_id=365

Canadian Melanie Mcquaid won for a record 3rd time (she rules the bike!) and Hamish Carter took the mens race in a close fought battle.

If you have not tried an off-road race yet, then make a point of adding Newell's Boreal off road race at McPhee Lake SK to your calendar for next year.

Greg Sylvester
1941 - 2006

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Greg Sylvester on Sunday, August 7, 2006. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Doreen of 42 years and his loving kids, Doug (Louise) and Lisa (Duane) and his four grandsons, Devon, Dylan, David and Thomas. He will also be missed by his two brothers, Terry (Donna), Don (Karen), many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Greg was born and raised in Saskatoon and resided in Prince Albert at the time of his passing. He passed away quickly, quietly and with dignity at his cabin at Candle Lake. Greg taught school for 30 years and after his retirement held a position with the Saskatchewan Mental Health Association where he, along with the volunteerism of Doreen, helped to nurture and build "The Nest" and The Good As New store. Greg exuded a positive mental attitude and truly brightened the lives of all who knew him. He did not just think, feel or say good things but he did good things. He was a caring and compassionate man who loved to help people. He was a man of honesty, integrity, patience and kindness - many different things to many different people. The warmth and love that Greg was able to openly share, not only with his wife Doreen and his family, but also among the many communities of which he was a part, was truly one of the things of which he was most grateful. The memorial service and luncheon to celebrate Greg's life will be held at River Park Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. (301 River Street West). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Terry Fox Run or a charity of your choice.
Love is patient . . . Love is kind.- 08/09/06

Race Results and Timing.
2006-02-20

STAC has purchased Race Wizard timing software. This is the same program that Tri Manitoba uses. If you would like to arrange to use this software for STAC sanctioned events e-mail results@triathlonsaskatchewan.org.

Saskatoon and Prince Albert are already using this Software. (The cost of this sotwware is only $200). Learn more about this software at http://www.racewizard.bizland.com/

Another option is to have your race timed by a professional firm. The 2006 Waskesiu Triathlon was timed by the firm www.raceresults.ca the contact there is Steve G. (204)256-9305, Winnipeg. e-mail timing@raceresults.ca. Steve's company is very reasonably priced, and he can use Race Wizard software, as well as RunScore.

If you feel that your event is large enough you may consider using chip timing, the nearest company providing this service is http://www.resultscanada.com. The cost for this service is greater.

Matt Kruchak, The Star Phoenix
Published: Wednesday, February 08, 2006

Hauling an 18-kilogram sled full of gear, Michael Scherman will cover the distance of almost four full marathons in Arctic temperatures and blowing snow.

"If you're not a little scared going into something like this you probably don't know what you're getting into," he said, adding adrenaline will be running through his body and fear through his mind as he lines up Saturday for the 160-kilometre Yukon Arctic Ultra Marathon.

The race begins in Whitehorse and follows parts of the trail used by another gruelling event, the 1,600-km Yukon Quest sled dog race that starts the same day, but in Fairbanks, Alaska. When the 22-year-old Saskatoon student tells people of his exploits they call him either inspirational or insane.
